Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) was formed on July 1, 1957 under section 54 of the Electricity (Supply) Act 1948 in the State of Tamil Nadu as a vertically integrated utility responsible for power generation, transmission and distribution.

The electricity network has since been extended to all villages and towns throughout the State. TNEB was restructured on 1.11.2010 into TNEB Limited; Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited (TANGEDCO); and Tamil Nadu Transmission Corporation Limited (TANTRANSCO).

Tamilnadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited ( TANGEDCO ) – www.tangedco.gov.in – is inviting applications through ONLINE MODE upto 11 Jan 2016 from all the eligible candidates for Written Examination towards the Direct Recruitment to the 375 Posts of Assistant Engineer.

  • Electrical and Electronics Engineering – 91% (273)
  • Electronics and Communication Engineering / Instrumentation Engineering – 7% (21)
  • Computer Science/ Information Technology Engineering – 2% (6)
• Assistant Engineer ( Mechanical ) – 25
• Assistant Engineer ( Civil ) – 50

Salary : Rs. 10,100 – 34,800 + Grade Pay of Rs 5100 (Around 50K per month ) { The candidate on their selection will be placed on 3 months training and they shall be paid a consolidated pay of Rs. 15,200/- pm. and they should be prepared to serve anywhere in Tamil Nadu. }

Educational Qualification: (as on 28 December 2015 )

• Assistant Engineer (Electrical): A degree in EEE/ ECE/ EIE/ CSE/ IT Engineering OR A pass in AMIE (Sections A and B) under Electrical Engineering Branch
• Assistant Engineer (Mechanical): A degree in Mechanical/ Production/ Industrial/ Manufacturing Engineering OR A pass in AMIE (Sections A and B) under Mechanical Engineering Branch
• Assistant Engineer (Civil): A degree in Civil Engineering OR A pass in AMIE (Sections A and B) under Civil Engineering Branch

Note: Provided that other things being equal, preference shall be given to those who have undergone one year graduate Apprenticeship Training under the erstwhile TNEB/ TANGEDCO/ TANTRANSCO. Knowledge of Tamil is also required.

Selection Process :

• Written Examination ( 85 % marks ): The Competitive Written Examination will be conducted as per “TANCET” norms by Centre for Entrance Examination/ Anna University, Chennai – 25.
• Followed by Interview (15% marks)

Examination Fee: 

• SC/ SC (A)/ ST / Differently Abled Persons / Destitute Widows: Rs 250/-
• Others: Rs 500/-
