The brief history of the Tamil Nadu Public Works Department can be traced back to the period of the East India Company as far back as to 1820s. This is the third oldest Department, the first two being the Revenue Department and Judiciary. When many parts of India came directly under the British Crown, the Public Works Department had become the Government Department in 1858.

Public Works Department is executing and maintaining all the Government buildings and all Irrigation Projects such as Dams, Canals, Tanks multifarious works such as construction of buildings, roads, bridges, culverts, water harvesting structures, implementation and maintenance of water supply in rural areas.

Civil Engineering: 315 posts
Electrical and Electronics Engineering: 35 posts

Technician (Diploma) Apprentices:

Civil Engineering: 135 posts
Electrical and Electronics Engineering: 15 posts

Job Location: Across Tamil Nadu

Experience: Freshers

Stipend:

  • Graduate: Rs.4,984/Month
  • Technician: Rs.3,542/Month

Educational Qualification:

Graduate Apprentices:

  • A Degree in Engineering or Technology granted by a Statutory University in relevant discipline.
  • A Degree in Engineering or Technology granted by an Institution empowered to grant such degree by an Act of Parliament in relevant discipline.
  • Graduate examination of Professional bodies recognised by the State Government or Central Government as equivalent to above.

Technician (Diploma) Apprentices:

  • A Diploma in Engineering or Technology granted by a State Council or Board of Technical Education established by a State Government in relevant discipline.
  • A Diploma in Engineering or Technology granted by a University in relevant discipline.
  • A Diploma in Engineering and Technology granted by an Institution recognised by the State Government or Central Government as equivalent to above.

Note:

  • Graduate/Diploma holders in Engineering (passed during 2017/ 2018 or 2019).
  • Candidates who have already undergone or are currently undergoing apprenticeship under Apprentices (Amendment) Act 1973, and/or having one year or more experience are not eligible to apply.

Selection Process:

  • Board of Apprenticeship Training (SR) is entrusted with the task of preparation of shortlisting from the online application data.
  • Shortlisting of candidates will be done based on the percentage of marks obtained in the basic prescribed qualification as applicable to the respective disciplines.

For students who have not so far enrolled in the National Web Portal. The students first enrol in the National web portal website (www.mhrdnats.gov.in) and then apply.
